I don’t dive into politics too much on this blog but I thought I would take a minute to say how much I enjoyed watching the presidential inauguration this week. I was very impressed and inspired. As a former news photographer I have enjoyed seeing all the beautiful still photographs that came out of the event. No doubt a lot of these images will be iconic photographs Americans will remember for years to come. Oh, how the photographer in me wanted to be there to document history.

I am particularly fascinated with this photo. It was taken by Chuck Kennedy, one of the pool photographers from a large news service. The photographer lobbied the White House to get a camera in this location, and this was the first time a camera was able to get a shot from this angle. Pretty cool. For anyone interested here are some articles on how this photo was shot. (Poynter article, NPPA article)
