My father grew up in a small town in Idaho called Malad. We used to go there often when I was growing up to visit my grandparents. Since they have been gone we don’t make it up there very much. They used to have a house in town and a farm we call “the ranch.” Now the family just has the ranch and let’s just say the property could use a little TLC. It is the type of place that as a photographer you look for to find old farm equipment to take portraits in front of.

For Memorial Day my parent’s took us to Malad for our traditional outing. We always start at the cemetery, eat lunch at a small old restaurant in town called the Dude Ranch and then head out to our ranch and poke around. I wanted to take some portraits but it was raining too hard. I did however get some nice shots of the house and surrounding area. It was a lot greener than it usually is.

We have a joke in my family that the spouses can’t go to the ranch until they have been in the family for a year. We don’t want to scare them away until they are really committed is what my dad says. This week Dan’s waiting period was up and my dad let him come. He wasn’t too frightened and he was actually really excited to go. We had told him about it but he had never seen the country side of our family before. Here is a little bit of what we showed him.

Marietta and Kyle were married on Saturday in the Idaho Falls Temple. Marietta is one of my dearest friends so it was great to take her pictures and attend her sealing. The weather was a little rainy but it held off during the picture taking. We were able to take some shots from the other side of the river and get the falls and the temple in the background. We were so excited to see that she had married someone who was so much like her and treats her like a princess. Congratulations you guys. We love you!
