Provo Castle bridalsPINIMAGE

These two love birds were so cute at their first look bridal photo session at the Provo Castle. In my 10 years shooting weddings I’ve never seen a groom as excited to see his bride as Michael was to see Shalae. I loved capturing his giddy expression as he saw his bride all dressed up for the first time. I love it when couples choose to do a first look during their bridal photos. I makes the experience so much more special.

These two love birds got married on May 28 at the LDS Temple in Portland, Oregon. The Portland Temple is one of my personal favorites. The grounds there are amazing! Shalae is from Texas and Michael is from Oregon. This sweet couple met their freshman year at Brigham Young University. They met again when Shalae was a missionary in Michael’s home ward in Portland. Finally they met again when they were both home from their missions and back studying at BYU in Provo. Then they started dating and the rest is history. Shalae is a member of a ladies A Capella group at Brigham Young University. We totally clicked at this session. I loved Shalae’s beautiful floral crown. Her dress came from Allyse’s Bridal in Orem, which is also where I bought my wedding dress back in the day.

Bride McCune Mansion Salt Lake CityPINIMAGE

A couple of weeks ago I had the great opportunity to attend Camilla Bink’s Light it Up workshop. Hands down this was the best and most helpful workshop I have ever been to. I had such a great time practicing my new off-camera lighting set up. Tiffany and Garrett are newlyweds and were fantastic models. They were so darling and so in love. Garrett even held my light for me a for the single shots of his bride.

The workshop was at the fabulous McCune Mansion in Salt Lake City which has long been a bucket list location of mine. I love old buildings, especially cool old houses so shooting at the McCune Mansion was a dream. The mansion was built in 1901 and is full of beautiful art and turn of the century craftsmanship. We also had dinner in the dining room which was a thrill. I felt like a guest at Downton Abbey. Camilla had a wonderful mock reception all set up including a delicious wedding cake. It was a wonderful shoot and I am so excited to incorporate more off-camera flash in the future, especially at wedding receptions. Thanks Camilla for all your lighting wisdom and a wonderful evening!

Last week I had the great privilege to go to the Photo Native conference. It was a wonderful two days of learning and growing as an artist. While there I got to be one of the lucky photographers to photograph this beautiful styled shoot. The whole set up was gorgeous and our models were so sweet. I just got done watching War and Peace when it was on television last month (which was fabulous by the way, go watch it) and I think our model Annie (with the short hair) looks just like Natasha (Lily James). That and our other model Abby carried herself like a Russian ballerina. I like to think of this as a War and Peace inspired shoot at least that is what I was thinking while I was creating these images. Also the paper goods, jewelry, flowers and other details were amazing. Enjoy.
