Tell me about your business: We are a mother daughter team and we work closely together to design our gowns. Arin especially loves keeping an eye on the trends to ensure that our designs are fresh and up to date, while Carrie focuses more closely on gown construction. We make a good team and complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We have been designing gowns since 2010. Our gowns are carried in both local and out of state stores. We also use our design studio as a flagship store where we sale only our own designs.
How do customers find you (i.e. referrals, google, etc)?: We mostly reach our customers through word of mouth and social media, including Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest. They also find as in the stores that carry our gowns.
What’s your favorite part about being in wedding fashion industry? It is wonderful to see a bride fall in love with one of our designs! We enjoy being a part of making a bride’s special day a dream come true.
Why did you decide to design wedding dresses? We found that there were just not enough options for modest wedding gowns and we felt confident that it was an area where we could make a difference.
What makes you stand out from your competitors, are all vendors in the wedding fashion industry equal? There are a lot of really wonderful designers! However, there are not as many options for modest, affordable gowns with a fresh and elegant look, so that is our niche market.
What are the benefits of hiring a professional to make your wedding dress versus doing it yourself? If you are an expert seamstress making your own gown can be very fulfilling. However, it is a lot of work and most people simply do not have the skill set.
How far in advance should a customer book/inquire about your services and why? We have had brides buy one of our gowns as late as one day before their wedding! However, we do not recommend that approach, since there are a lot more options available if you start much sooner than that. We have a good sized inventory, so if a bride is on a time crunch we can often still accommodate her, but many brides prefer to order their gown so that they can choose the color and other details, such as sleeve length. In those cases it usually takes 6-8 weeks for one of our gowns to be made.
What is the first questions customers usually ask when inquiring about your services? Q: What is the price range of your gowns? A: Our gowns are regularly priced from $990-$1700
What is a consultation/first meeting typically like? Who/what do you recommend they bring? Shopping for a wedding gown is a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of work. Brides should plan on trying on several gowns. We usually plan for a one hour visit. To help things go smoother the bride should wear undergarments that are similar to what she plans to wear on her wedding day, along with shoes that are similar in height to what she will wear with the gown. Bringing too many guests to shop for a wedding gown is usually a bad idea! If you have ever watched Say Yes to the Dress you know that a big group of guests, especially opinionated guests, can often leave the bride in tears. Everyone has their idea of the perfect wedding gown and those ideas often vary widely, so focus on what YOU like and don’t depend too much on the opinions of others. Limit your guests to one or two people who understand your tastes and will help you find a gown that reflects your personality.
What do you wish grooms would know? Grooms should know that most brides have dreamed of their wedding day since they were little girls! While the groom may have a particular wedding gown style that he prefers, if they are involved in the selection of the wedding gown they should let the bride take the lead and support her in her quest for a gown that helps her get the look she has always imagined that she would have on her wedding day.
Describe your dream client: We love working with customers who have done their research and who can make up their minds!
What are some fun secrets about your industry (i.e dresses in a wedding shop are typically in ivory because it looks better with lighter skin tones). Colored gowns are in! About half of our brides purchase light ivory gowns and the other half choose from an assortment of other colors including darker ivory, silver, gold, champagne and even pink and blue. Most of our gowns can be ordered in any of these colors. We do not keep stark white gowns in stock because very few brides are interested in wearing them now days.
