I recently had the had the privilege of photographing Beth. She is an amazing girl! Here are more photos from our session and experts from my interview with her mom.
"Beth is an amazing kid! She is creative, she has a huge heart, and she is talented. Beth loves to be helpful, she gets excited when we ask her to babysit, or to make dinner for her siblings, which is awesome! Beth is an avid reader and writer, she can often be found writing stories of her own on the computer or sitting in one of her favorite spots devouring a new book. She is 13 but has a reading level above college level!"
"Beth is always showing compassion for other people. She is the first person to want to buy or make a gift for someone going through a hard time. She thinks about people often and tries to think about what might help them feel better. There is a single mom in our ward that often feels lonely and has been through lots of struggles. She has told me on many occasions that Beth is like her guardian angel. Whenever she is having a particularly hard day, that is when Beth will have written her a note, or drawn her a picture, or will send her a text just to tell her she is loved. That is what Beth does, without reason, just because she can feel that someone needs a little extra love, she wants to be the first one there to give it."
"Beth wanted to be in the school play, she knew auditioning would be scary and that she might not get a part she wanted, but she wanted to do it anyway, so she did, and she did it with gusto and did really well! She loved being in the play even though it required a lot of time and hard work.
Middle school has not been easy for Beth this year, it's tough to stay caught up in six classes when you are practicing for a play 10+ hours a week, plus being on a theatre company outside of school, plus everything else she is involved with. It has required a lot of work, but with determination, and asking for help when she needs it, she has pushed through and gotten all of her work done and it has impressed us."
Beth is extremely enthusiastic about life. She lives life at full volume. She loves everything with her whole heart and I love that about her. You can see her joy pouring out of her when she is doing something she loves and it is contagious. Being with Beth anywhere that she loves (Disneyland, Lagoon, Hawaii, the mall, out to dinner, at a play, on a bike ride) is a joyful experience because she is so contagiously enthusiastic!"
Beth participates in JDRF charity bike rides to support her brother who has type 1 diabetes. She rides with Team Schnak.
"Beth is a spiritual soul. She has always been perceptive and tender hearted. She feels everything in a big way, and I feel like from the time she was very small that has helped her to understand big concepts in a real way. People tell me all the time that she seems beyond her years in her understanding and her testimony of spiritual things, and I think she is. Her heart understands and she doesn't question those feelings, which I love about her.
"I never want Beth to lose her sense of wonder about the world. Her sense of joy in all the things she loves. When Beth loves something, she REALLY loves it, and I always want her to feel that way. That sense of full to bursting with excitement over all the little things.
One of my most happy memories with Beth is when I got to spend a few days at Disneyland with just her. We had such a good time going on tour with her theatre company, and got to have a lot of one on one mom and daughter time in the park. It was such a blast riding all the big rides and eating all the churros and chimichangas with Beth and getting to just really spend quality time together."
"If I could give Beth one piece of advice in ten years it would be to truly love herself exactly as she is. As women we tend to be so hard on ourselves, and we tend to think that we are never enough, or that we can't accomplish whatever it is that we want. But we can, and we are enough. We are beloved daughters of God, he made us exactly as we are, imperfections and all, and he wants us to be happy! He wants us to spend every day loving who we are, and being grateful for what we have. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL and MIRACULOUS!"
