Jethro was such a fun kid. He is a great ballroom dancer. Here are some thoughts about him from his family and friends.
"Jethro has always been a kind, humble, considerate, passionate, energetic, smart and driven boy. He puts his heart and soul into everything he does. He has always gone out of his way to brighten the day of the people he loves. His smile is contagious and he has a way of inspiring others to work hard at push themselves right alongside of him. He doesn't take no for an answer and finds a way to reach his goals — especially if anyone tells him he can't." — Jethro's mom
I love his positive attitude. It doesn't matter how hard life is or what challenge he has in front of him. He has a way of not only pushing through — but of finding joy in the midst of challenges. — Jethro's mom
Jethro has learned the skill of discipline through dance. He puts in an average of 15 grueling hours a week in lessons. On competition days he dances throughout the day from about 9am-10pm. At nationals he dances for five days straight in front of thousands of people. He has learned to do it all with dedication and humility. His team has won first place nationally in both in Latin and standard team formations for the past four years. He and his partner's have been national finalist beating out over 200 other couples. What impresses me the most though is his commitment to always improve and to push himself on the days he just doesn't want to dance — to take the days he doesn't place well as not a failure, but a learning experience, and the way he and his friends cheer each other on and support each other." — Jethro's mom
"My husband and I went to BYU to watch Jet compete in the Dancesport competition last year. After he was done competing in the Couples' Latin Dance category, he came into the stands to sit with us. In between competition rounds, we were chatting and I told him how awesome it was to be there, watching all of that. I shared with him that, while I’d always enjoyed dance and watching different forms of dance and going to dances myself when I was much younger, I’d never been to a ballroom dance competition or done any formal dancing or competed in a dance group or anything, but it was one of those things I’d always thought it’d be so fun to do. He then asked how old I was, I told him I was 32, and then he says, “It’s never too late to start! You could start right now if you wanted to! There are lots of other dancers who don’t start dancing until they’re much older than you. I could teach you!” It was the coolest thing ever, to be getting a super encouraging pep talk from an eleven-year-old boy! And it was fun for me because he reminded me that it’s never too late to start a new hobby and develop talents, and that he’d be the one to cheer me on." — Sarah Jones, youth leader
"My nephew Jet is a thinker, you need to choose your words carefully because he remembers them exactly and will hold you to promises and to what you say. There's no messing around with this boy. He's on his way to being a force to be reckoned with. Criminals watch out he may end up being an attorney and even a judge." — Jethro's uncle
"It’s been both inspiring and sweet to see how Jet has handled some difficult situations that his family has faced over the last couple of years since we’ve gotten to know them. He’s really stepped up and taken on more responsibility, and has shown such great love and support to his mom. This has been yet another thing that’s impressed us so much about him (especially considering his age). I know I’ve already said this, but he truly is an exceptional young man." — Sarah Jones, youth leader
"He has helped me to find joy in the little things in everyday life. It doesn't matter what we are dealing with he will ALWAYS find one positive thing in the situation — even if sometimes the only positive is we learned what not to do. He is always singing around the house and dancing down the aisles in the stores." — Jethro's mom
