Utah makeup artist
Looking for a hair and makeup artist. Check out my interview with Kait Parkinson. I've loved working with Kait. She is so professional and talented at what she does. I've included pictures I took of her working on one of my clients, Ashlei. You might remember her from her gorgeous formal session awhile back. Kait's expertise made a huge difference to the success of this session.

Tell me about your business: I've been doing hair and makeup for about four years now. I've worked with countless brides and wedding parties, and also dabble in commercial work.
Tell me a little bit about yourself: I've known I've wanted to do hair and makeup since I was young. I used to watch my sisters get ready for dances and i always found the transformation fascinating. When I was old enough I began practicing on myself, family and friends, after I got married I decided I wanted to pursue it as a career.
How do brides find you? Most of my customers are referred from friends and their wedding vendors. I also receive inquiries through social media, most commonly being Instagram and Facebook.
What’s your favorite part about being in hair and makeup industry? I love the opportunity to meet and work with a wide variety of people. I have always loved weddings so being immersed in them constantly is very enjoyable to me.
Why did you decide to become an hair and makeup artist? I've always had a passion and talent for beauty and couldn't imagine my life without it.
What makes you stand out from your competitors, are all vendors in hair and makeup industry equal? I feel that I'm very personable, I may be just a hair and makeup artist but I'll go above and beyond for you to make your wedding day perfect. If that means helping you into your dress, adjusting your veil, or tracking down other vendors I'll do it. Some HMUA are just there to do your job, I'm there to do my job, and make your day as stress free as possible.
What are the benefits of hiring a professional to do your hair and makeup versus doing it yourself? I always tell my brides that it's best to hire someone to do their hair and makeup, even if it's not me. It's worth getting a few hours to relax and visit with your wedding party and family without feeling like you're wasting time. I'm all about reducing stress! I want my brides to feel confident and relaxed on their big day, instead of stressing out about the details.
How far in advance should a bride book/inquire about your services and why? I always recommend booking at least 2-3 months before your event, but some people don't know their date yet or they forget and that's perfectly fine, but it will limit what vendors are available. If you want to work with your favorite vendor, you'll want to inquire as early as possible to make sure they are available and have plenty of notice about your big day.
What is the first questions brides usually ask when inquiring about your services? Since my pricing and other FAQs are readily available on my website, I'm usually only asked about my availability for particular dates.
What is a consultation/first meeting typically like? Who/what do you recommend they bring? I don't require consultations, but am happy to schedule one with you! I understand that planning a wedding is busy so taking the time out of your day to meet with me in person just to discuss particular looks is unnecessary, especially when we have other means of communication. If you want to try out a particular style or look beforehand, I strongly recommend scheduling a trial run. Leading up to your trial run we'll discuss the look you're going for. When you arrive we'll dive right in and doll you up so you can see if you like the look you've selected. You're welcome to bring anyone you'd like or no one at all!
What are some things that brides don’t typically expect to happen during a consult/meeting? Some brides expect that they'll come to their consultation and we'll spend the time chatting about their look instead of actually doing it!
Describe your dream bride/client: I love a bride that knows what she wants, but is also open to small changes that will help me adapt the look she loves to her particular skin tone and style.
What are some fun secrets about your industry: Drugstore isn't a dirty word to us! Don't feel embarrassed to tell us that you use a few (or all) drugstore products, every artist I know has at least a few favorites!
