I recently got to know Betsy from Unlike Juliet and I was immediately blown away by her product. My journalist heart loves that she makes these fun customizable wedding magazines for couples. I wish I had thought of this idea myself. If you are looking for something fun an unique for your wedding definitely check her out.

Tell me about your business: Unlike Juliet unofficially began in 2013 when I designed a magazine for my own wedding. Inspired by the power of meaningful storytelling, we design keepsake magazines for couples and their loved ones to cherish for years to come. The majority of our clients use their custom magazines as favors or programs to use on their wedding day. We've recently expanded into designing magazines for other moments worth celebrating, like baby announcements and Christmas "cards".
Tell me a little about yourself: I’m a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, writer, designer and circus peanut aficionado. When I’m not designing magazines, you can find me chasing my toddler, riding on the back of my hubby’s Harley (I recently got my own license but I'm still too afraid to ride), or cuddling with my Pekingese mutt, Pippin. I’m a Utah State University grad (go Aggies!) where I studied public relations and graphic design.
How do brides find you? The majority of our brides find us in one of two ways — on Instagram or through a referral. I love having referrals come in so regularly because it means our past clients were happy with their experience!*What’s your favorite part about being in the wedding industry?* I'm really lucky to play a role in such beautiful and important moments for my clients. I often receive emails telling me that their magazines were one of their favorite parts of their wedding day and that their guests couldn't stop raving about them. I save all of those emails in a folder and look at them time and time again.
Why did you decide to start making wedding magazines? I was in a graphic design class at the time of my engagement five years ago, and we were assigned a magazine project. The subject could be almost anything, but we had to design a custom magazine. Naturally, my wedding was fresh on my mind, so I created a proposal to create a custom wedding magazine telling the story of me and my now-husband. Though my project proposal was rejected and I had to choose other subject matter, I decided to still make it happen on my own time. I've learned a lot about design (and printing) since then, but it's still my favorite magazine.
What makes you stand out from your competitors? Simply put, we're not your everyday wedding stationery! If you want to share your love story with your friends and family in a physical keepsake they'll always cherish, our custom wedding magazines are perfect for you. Our brides will use them as save the dates, invitations, programs, favors, or even as alternatives to thank you cards. Believe me when I say your guests will LOVE them.
What are the benefits of hiring a professional to make something like this for your wedding versus doing it yourself? Generally speaking, I've come to learn that you should invest in the things that mean most to you. When I was getting married, we did a lot of DIY. Seven years later, I don't regret all of it, but I do regret some of it. ;)
How far in advance should a bride book/inquire about your services and why? We used to ask that our brides book us at least three months in advance, but we've since expanded our team and are happy that we can now turn brides around in 1-2 months, depending on our client's responsiveness.
What is the first questions brides usually ask when inquiring about your services? Because we keep our prices on our website so people never have to wonder what they're getting into, the first question is almost always, "Are you sure I can get my magazines by XYZ date?" This is especially common when brides have short engagements or had a previous stationery vendor fall through at the last minute. I can honestly say that in five years of business, we've never missed a wedding, even when faced with tight deadlines.
What is your favorite package/product/service and why do you recommend it the most? Our wedding magazines are definitely our flagship product, but we launched Christmas "card" magazines last year and I absolutely love them. Inside, you can share all of your favorite photos and memories from the year. Imagine someone receiving a 5x7 magazine in place of a traditional card in the mail at Christmas time — how sweet is that?
Describe your dream bride/client: Unlike Juliet couples cherish the art of storytelling. They're family-oriented, down-to-earth, and deeply in love.
What are some fun secrets about your industry: After getting into the wedding industry, I was surprised to learn that the industry in Utah is traditionally very friendly, even among competing vendors. This is of course not always the case, but odds are some of your vendors have worked together in the past and keep in touch even outside of work. It's an incredible place for me to be in the wedding business, even though the majority of my clients aren't based here! There's a lot of support and camaraderie.
